Aldens is on the Upper Newtownard Road in East Belfast, only a few minutes drive from the city centre. This smart restaurant has been going for some time and owner Jonathan Davis has worked hard to keep his award-winning restaurant a favourite with people from all over.

The menu changes often and usually features top quality meat, game and fish as well as thought out vegetarian cooking. The set menu (Monday to Thursday) is brilliant value for money with 3 courses for £20 or 2 courses for £17.95. An early evening menu is served until 6.30pm for under £10. Given the quality, these prices are really hard to beat.

Service was good, the staff are smartly turned out and professional but at the same time they aren’t overly formal.

We hadn’t been in ages so we’re glad to see them doing well and still at it.

A warm and funny biodrama of an Irish national treasure.

It is 1960s New York in legendary bohemian bolt hole, The Chelsea Hotel. Arthur Miller is just across the hall and the symphony of 24th Street is rising up and in through the open window of Brendan Behan’s room. He’s broke, hung over and way past the delivery date of his latest book, the first line of which he has yet to write. He was told to stop drinking or he’d be dead in six months – that was two years ago.

Today is not going well. His mistress keeps ringing, the bills aren’t paid and a wire arrives from Dublin with the kind of news that’s guaranteed to put his blood pressure through the roof…

‘Dunbar’s Behan is stimulating company, sodden and slurring yet lucid, scathingly funny and sadly incapable of enjoying his success’ The Times

Francis Veber
THE PAINKILLER
Adapted by Sean Foley
Creative Producers / Kenneth Branagh and Sean Foley

World Premiere of a new comedy

Brian is suicidal. And why not? He’s Swindon’s seventeenth best news photographer, dresses in casualwear, and sings ‘Lady in Red’ as spiritual salvation. Oh, and his wife just left him. He decides there is only one escape from his pain.

Ralph is at ease with the world. And why not?
He’s the best there is, calls himself ‘John Smith’, dresses in Armani, and carries a Heckler and Koch PSG1 sniper rifle. But you’d never know. If forced to speak, he would say that he’s in the business of ‘pain removal’.

Two men. Two lonely hotel rooms. An adjoining door…

On any other day, Brian would have successfully ended things. On any other day, Ralph would have successfully ended someone.

But not today… Today’s different…

Director / Sean Foley

Designer / Alice Power

Rudyard Kipling
The Jungle Book
Adapted by Neil Duffield

Laced with whiskey, wit and ballsy humour, Dockers is a very Northern Irish play with a universal message. Working class hero John Graham struggles to bring equality and integrity to the brutal working environment of the Belfast docks.

As one man’s idealism confronts the tribal politics of the docks, a sobering and shocking turn of events brings the play to a climactic ending.

Martin Lynch’s critically acclaimed and popular play was first produced by the Lyric in 1981.
It was pivotal in establishing a very Belfast brand, breaking new ground and opening a floodgate of creativity for local talent.

Arthur Miller’s compelling dramatisation of the hellish Salem witchcraft trials is critically acclaimed as one of the greatest plays ever written. The Crucible, an allegory to McCarthyism, quickly became a central and revolutionary work in the canon of American drama.

Abigail Williams wants revenge after she is spurned by her lover. John Proctor, her seducer, becomes the unwitting hero as Salem and its inhabitants spiral out of control.

This gritty piece of theatre transports you to a society of madness, suspicion and godlessness, where accusers and panic stricken innocents are bound together. Fingers point, tensions rise, blood boils and hysteria reigns. How can justice and reason prevail as The Crucible condemns its purest victim to the gallows?

Director: Conall Morrison
